| Worship draws upon all world religions as well as science, psychology, the social sciences, history, and philosophy. We fully utilize the arts, visual as well as musical, and often include short dramas and moments of celebration. We do not shy away from politics in the pulpit, for there is no other way to speak of justice and fairness in this world. Each service is an integrated whole with both intellectual stimulation and spiritual uplift. Worship varies in content and form regularly. During the fall teacher dedication, we celebrate the energy and diversity of our church school. At Thanksgiving we sometime make bread, over 300 loaves, everyone kneading, as part of the service. Plays, and credo statements, stories and movement, intergenerational activities and dance, can all be part of worship. One 90 year old said, "I love to attend worship. You never know what is going to happen!" She is right!! Our Ministers and Laypeople Lead Services Our Parish Minister is responsible for services from the Sunday after Labour Day through the next to the last Sunday in June. He is out of the pulpit, on the average, of two Sundays each month. On his "Sundays off" we are likely to have our Director of Religious Exploration, the Youth Group, an Intergenerational Service, an outside speaker on a social justice theme, or another Unitarian minister fill the pulpit. Our Worship Associates work with the Parish Minister to facilitate high quality worship throughout the year. In the summer months, most services are lay led ranging from poetry groups to social justice and personal or spiritual issues for topics. We are happy to have past ministers visit and share the pulpit with us. We work hard to use inclusive language and to include minority members of the larger community in an effort to make a statement about the importance of all people in creating the rich mix of heritages and cultures that makes up our nation. |
