Weddings

Unitarians have been doing weddings for all people, no matter what the faith community they come from, for over 400 years. Today we often incorporate service elements from other religions in weddings. For many years we performed Holy Unions, and are now delighted to perform legal marriages for same-sex couples.

Weddings are performed by our Minister or one of our Lay Chaplains.

Sylvia is your first step if you are considering a wedding through the Unitarian Congregation. call her at 725-1066 afternoons, Monday - Thursday. After you have booked your service either a minister or a lay chaplain will work with you to make your wedding a meaningful and joyful day!

Wedding Preparation Advice

Write your own wedding ceremony using our Wedding Ceremony Booklet

Weddings can be held in Worship Hall (picture) , at your home, a reception hall, outside, or any location of your choice in Ontario. (One of our ministers performed a wedding in a helicopter!) Our ministers and lay chaplains have compiled a convenient Wedding Ceremony Booklet , to help you personalize your own service. Couples are not restricted to materials in the booklet, but most find it helpful for putting together a meaningful service which reflects their backgrounds.

Phone the church office at 725-1066. You will be able to find out the availability of officiants and/or the building for your chosen date(s). Then speak to Sylvia who is charged with booking weddings for the ministers and lay chaplains . Sylvia can talk with you about your arrangements. She can also provide a list of people we have found it helpful to work with on wedding details from flowers to music.   While we can arrange for a wedding in several days we prefer to allow four weeks or more to co-ordinate your wedding

Worship Hall at First Unitarian Congregation is a wonderful space for weddings with its views of the Ottawa River and the Gatineau Hills.

Our beautiful meditation garden is lush and green, with walkways and a pond.  The gardens are a perfect spot for photographs, or an outdoor wedding.
