CHILD NAMING/PARENT DEDICATION |
||
| We are often asked, "Can we have our child baptized or christened?" The answer always takes some time. Baptism and christenings are Christian services that often confer some degree of access to salvation or sense of belonging to the family of Christ. Our beliefs do not belong to that school of thought. Rather we do a child naming and parent dedication service. The child receives a name, a distinct identity, and the parents pledge themselves to provide a good environment and spiritual home for their child. God-parents are often named to be special friends to the child as he/she grows, providing support and counsel. Each couple seeking a Child Naming/Parent Dedication service is given a copy of Writing Your Own Child Dedication, filled with suggestions for the service. Couples are expected to craft their own dedication service to fit their beliefs and their family traditions. Our ministers and lay chaplains offer help in creating that service. For further information contact Sylvia Furman at 725-1066. She schedules all child dedications for the ministers and lay chaplains. |
Child naming/parent dedication services can be done in Worship Hall, at your home, or almost anywhere. The choice is yours.
